I love to drive or hike up to the top of a hill and get a panaramic view of the city. There are lots of scenic viewpoints of cities from hillsides all over America. But what is best?

To get the ball rolling I will give my picks first:

The View of Portland Oregon from Pittock Mansion 1000 feet above the city below: (Click on link and scroll down)

The view from Twin Peaks in San Francisco is hard to beat.

But the view from Bernal Heights ain't bad either.

Neither is the view from Grizzly Peak in Berkeley.

I don't have a link but I nominate Pittsburgh. Anywhere on the hill/mountain south of town is spectacular. And the downtown is right there - not off in the distance.

The awesome view of Pittsburgh is from Mount Washington.

I happen to have a couple of pictures I took up there... not the best pics, but you get the idea:

There's a hilltop view of downtown Indianapolis from Crown Hill Cemetery. It's about 3 miles northwest of downtown and is the highest point in the city. Certainly not the best but one of the best views of Indianapolis. They have sunset tours to the top of the hill that are extremely popular.

I think somebody created this topic specifically so Pittsburgh would kick all other cities in the face.

Johnstown PA from the Incline is pretty impressive...esp since the slope is so steep. But yes to PBGH. Possibly the best.
