For me its Hawaii, Florida, or Southern California. I love the year round sunshine and I love the beaches. There's also a lot to do at each of those places.

NYC during the summer. Florida during the winter. Atlanta is an ok city for some, but not my type of city.

I enjoy the most all of the northeast states and also some southeast states like Virginia and parts of Tennessee.

I also like the mountain west for its nature. I have to see a lot more it.

New Orleans and Palm Springs-Palm Desert, CA (this one's a relaxing-cleansing type of vacation for me).

I have a few favorite places:

1. Coastal Virginia
2. New Orleans
3. Texas Hill Country

I like many places in the US - for instance, I love the northwest coast and I also really enjoy the beaches of Alabama and Florida - but the three above are my very favorite places.

I absolutely love the entire state of Virginia - every square mile of it, from the ocean to the mountains. I love the history of the coastal area, as well as the beaches. Love me some Yorktown! The fact that my ancestor was the main architect/city planner for Yorktown (Nicolas Martiau) adds to it's allure to me. Many of my ancestors settled in that area in the 1600s and early 1700s and even served in the House of Burgesses in colonial times.

I love New Orleans because it's my hometown and because it's so unique and exotic and just plain fun. Irreverent, bawdy, spicy, mysterious, profane, spiritual, down home and yet foreign - it's a terrific place to people watch and explore...basically whatever you want to explore...

The Texas Hill Country is probably where we'll retire. I love the terrain, the atmosphere, the people, the food, the towns, the wineries, the music, the quirkiness, and the independent spirit.

Limiting myself to the continental US, I'd say:

1. New York City: America's alpha city, and the quintessential big city. The buildings make my jaw hit the ground. The whole place is just filled with icons.
2. New Orleans: love the unique culture, food, architecture, music, etc. Being there puts me in a different state of mind.
3. Pretty much any beach: some of my favorites are along the Florida panhandle, Hilton Head Island, and the Outer Banks.
4. Best drive: Up the Pacific Coast highway. Absolutely beautiful.
5. Our National Parks: my favorites are Yosemite and Bryce Canyon
