Wisconsin towns take the cake on this one. As Dave Barry would say, I'm not making these up:

Bear Creek: "Home of the World's Largest Sauerkraut Plant"

Bloomer: "Rope Jump Capital of the World"

Delavan: "Clown Town USA"

Cumberland: "Rutabaga Capital"

Dousman: "Bullfrog Station"

Ellsworth: "Cheese Curd Capital of Wisconsin"

Elmwood: "UFO Capital of the World"

Forest Junction: "You Can Get There From Here"

Grantsburg: "Home of Big Gust"

Green Bay: "Toilet Paper Capital of the World"

Lake Tomahawk: "Snowshoe Baseball Capital of the World"

Lodi: "Home of Susie the Duck"

Marshfield: "Cheese City USA"

Mount Horeb: "The Troll Capital" (perhaps we should banish certain CD regulars there...)

New Holstein: "Cow Town USA"

Pardeeville: "Home of the Watermelon Eating and Seed Spitting Championships"

Pulaski: "Polka Town"

Rhinelander: "Home of the Hodag" (Good luck trying to figure out what the hell a Hodag is)

Prairie du Sac: "Cow Chip Throwing Capital of Wisconsin"

Sayner: "Birthplace of the Snowmobile"

Sheboygan: "Bratwurst Capital of the World"

Spring Valley: "Home of the Largest Earthen Dam in the Midwest" (now, who wouldn't want to shout that from the hilltops??)

Superior: "I'm A Superior Lover"

Waunakee: "The Only Waunakee in the World"

Wonewoc: "We Are User-Friendly"

Woodman: "The Dinky's Last Stop"

Virginia Beach- "Live the Beach Life"

It's weird because when you actually live here, you hardly ever go to the beach. Once you get out of the Ocean Front area where all the tourists hangout, you wouldnt even know you were in a city with "Beach" at the end of it.

Also, which is weirder?

And I may be mistaken, but wasn't there an unofficial campaign to "Keep San Antonio Normal"?
There's also "Keep Santa Fe Diferente" which I thought was hella clever.

Pretty sure none are official though. Austin, if I'm not mistaken, was the first, but Portland is weirder.

Actually that's not true. It was back in 188...whenever. It was "Where the Rogue River Runs" for a long time, but is now "Natural. Rogue River. Legends." which I feel is ridiculous.

There is absolutely nothing weird about Portland. White guys with dreads and piercings are not weird.

West Virginia is weird. Pittsburgh is weirder than Portland.

Edit: Oh yeah... Pittsburgh: Imagine What You Can Do Here.

Since I came here a little over a year ago with almost no money and I just bought a house, I think it's pretty appropriate.

LOL, "Imagine what you can do here." Such as get a decent-paying job, seeing as imagination is your best hope for that. Reality is not so likely to be compliant. I plan to look there anyway when I'm done with school because I like the idea of having a mortgage payment lower than my school loan payment. Wish me luck.

So how's life on the O-Hill these days? Seems like things are getting a little rougher at the bottom of the hill on the North side...

I disagree, I noticed alot of weird things about Portland.... one is that I've never been in a city where almost everyone talks out loud to themselves. Just my observation..... it drives me crazy though.

Haha...never noticed that about Portland. I thought it was just your standard "alternative" version of "weird", like people from Cowflop, KS would think they were weird 20 years ago.

On the top of my head I think of a really small Swedish town in Iowa. Stanton, IA's slogan is "The Little White City". lol, sounds bad but I don't think that was their intent.
Holy crap! My family is from that little tiny town. It was named that because all the houses were whitewashed and train conductors passing through town pointed out its tidy and clean look.
