the entire west coast.

Would I be better off aiming for the less expensive ones? (Portland, Sacramento, etc?)

I've been researching Portland, and I've yet to find one.

Times have changed. In 94-95, I stayed at the Hollywood Budget Inn. For the first three months, I paid $600 per month and then switched to a $400 per month room.

That's pretty much a week's lodging now!

I don't think it would exist. I'd be careful with Portland. The city sounds nice by description, but in person and on a limited income be careful. It is very much homeless central. There are numerous low cost rooms and such in these motels, but they reflect trouble and drugs and serous problems. Don't hurt yourself by even considering them. I just don't think you can find it on the West Coast. Perhaps and its iffy maybe in interior areas. Such as Fresno or Spokane, but even so I doubt it.

If your willing to come in a bit further you could try Arizona. Phoenix, Tucson. I know you can get them here at least from now until Oct. I have seen signs as I pass by on the fwy. InTown Suites $199 a week. Its a studio type room I believe with fridge and micro. There is also Extended Stay Motels. studio type rooms with kitichen. You can get them for around $200 this time of year. These are newer modern bldgs. Just the West Coast itself is always expensive year round. Hope this helps

Seattle or Tacoma is my best guess.
