I leisurely visit some places and I vacation in others. A vacation for me doesn't really get any better than Florida, where I can just have childish, ignorant fun.

New Jersey. Go ahead, laugh. But there's nothing like the Jersey Shore and its diversity from untouched state parks with natural dunes and wildlife to towns like Seaside Heights, Pt. Pleasant Beach, Wildwood and Ocean City with boardwalks that are more fun and family centric. The water's between 70 and 75 for most of the summer, which is wonderful to cool off in as it gets hot and sometimes even humid at the beach though the breeze tends to break that up. And NJ has Cape May, my personal favorite place in the world and the country's oldest seaside resort at over 400 years old with stunning Victorian architecture everywhere you turn.

I've been to Florida, Maine, Maryland, Illinois (Chicago), and pretty much every other East Coast state and I loved them all but I still have to pick my home state where I grew up with great memories in a great area.

For those laughing at me right now or even doubting me, go google Cape May, NJ please, especially under images.

Virginia has it all - beaches, mountains, history, good climate, friendly people and terrific Southern cuisine as well as fabulous seafood!

Texas is a close second.

I am retired and live on a perpetual vacation but I'd have to say my favorite vacationing in the past has been in the rural parts of New Mexico. This because of the State's cool (temperature wise) beautiful northern and southern mountains, its many grand vistas, it's in-your-face geologic history and, in year's past, it's many areas to camp and hunt.

Vacationing in a city has never been a preferable vacation spot for me but I would have to say Santa Fe, Washington D.C. and even New Orleans are interesting for daytime visits.

My top three vacation states would be:
1. New Mexico
2. Arizona
3. Utah

What experiences do I enjoy on vacation that is different from where I now live? Significant and varied altitudes with trees.
