They often try to sound like us...I have heard y'all used in places from NYC to London to L.A., although some people wouldn't admit that it is. It's an simple contraction that takes the place of two words and rolls off the tongue with ease. I can see why it has spread to areas that I never thought it would.

Why would anyone want to sound like an uneducated slack-jaw hick? If I hear anyone say "purdy" I immediately judge and dismiss.

I don't know...and "purdy" is not necessarily a southern thing, but a country/uneducated thing. I have when people confuse the two.

That pompous outlook is always welcomed around here...as the slack jaws skin you alive in trades, cards and just about everything else you have "judged and dismissed"....when I come acrossed someone with your outlook on "hicks" my first thought is"I wish I could buy him for what he was actually worth and sell him for what he THINKS he's worth"..grow up Gomer.

Not "pea pickin hearts"?

I type like a northerner, but have a very distinctive 'southern drawl' when speaking.

I find that y'all from the north are so easy to sell ya anything. Look at all the swamp land y'all bought down here in Fla. from us goobers.

"buy him and sell him" Is that the typical southern sentiment or just yours?

You know that intelligence isn't related to a person's accent, right?

That's all Florida would be without the Northerers, one giant swamp full of gators and ignorant rednecks.
