I am noticing an increasing number of men pronouncing pretty as purdy. It is obviously a silly trend where people in the Northeast want to sound country or from down South. I find it stupid and feel Southerners should be offended. I think in general there is a growing movement to stereotype and exploit the South. The South needs to speak out against this.

This has been going on for a very, very long time already. Think back to the entertainment that used to be on TV (and maybe someone will get the idea to go back to it, oh wait, they already have with new reality shows about southern folk, mountain men and so on) Hee-Haw, and The Beverly Hillbillies just off the top of my head.

I believe the South is far too polite to speak out against this type of behavior...just my view on the matter.

Best regards, sincerely

And that's how it is!!! We like the way we sound. More people should try to sound like us. They would be a lot easier to listen to.

"Purty" (not purdy) is the way I say pretty by default due to where I was born and the areas I was raised in during my formative years and the amalgamation has given me an accent often mistaken for a southeast Texas native..as for it being offensive if faked by other? Only when the new country music Dbags use it but since they also offend me with their "music" I just figure its to be expected.
