I'm partial to Florida, of course, but there are so many places to choose from with our coastline. You may love the beach, but gulf coast vs. ocean coast is a big difference in beach quality and water temperature. I grew up visiting the Jersey Shore beaches, and will never get used to the water on the Florida gulf coast beaches, no mater how much nicer they are.

As to bugs and reptiles. You get used to them, or just plan to hire a good pest control company.

Out of the four, NC has been a really big "boom" state.
