The Midwest is the area east of the Rockies to the eastern boundary of Missouri and Indiana, North of upper Oklahoma to the Canadian border.

Since Missouri draws its influences from pretty much every region, I think it would be fair to say it's about 25% western, 25% eastern, 25% northern/midwestern, and 25% southern. Indiana, Illinois and Ohio also have strong southern colorations in their lower portions.

The major difference is that southern Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio have much more of a Rust Belt industrial feel compared to the majority of southern Missouri.
