So I notice that Dunkin Donuts is very popular with people up north. Particularly the northeast.
My question is, why? I've been to one, and to be honest, I wasn't all that impressed with the donuts. They were dry and flavorless outside of the little bit of glaze.
So where's the hype from? Did I just order the wrong thing or is there something else I'm missing?
Also their coffee and espresso drinks are roughly the same prices as Starbucks

This is very true. I think they use to be much more into donuts, then bagels came around, and then they saw they needed to jump on the coffee bandwagon. Especially since there are so many other more high-end donut options than there were 20 years ago.
I don't really know anyone who gets donuts at the stores as much as coffee. People who get the donuts usually get a big box of them to put out at work cause it's easy.
Do people really still get random donuts to eat for breakfast on the way to work? I haven't had one in ages. Seems more like a little kid treat.
It's funny how DD's image has changed somewhat over the years. I still associate DD with overweight cops scarfing down jelly donuts in a police cruiser underneath an El.

I don't know about up there, but down here it's very common for people to get donuts for a quick breakfast. Especially from Lone Star Bakery. There's literally a 15 car line in the drive through and a 20 person line inside at peak hours...for the donuts!
A lot of times, employers will treat their staff to donuts on Friday's as well.
Speaking of bagels, that's another thing I hear about from ppl up north that I don't get, lol.

I almost never actually gets Donuts from DD, but I love their Ice Coffee, Iced Tea and Lattes. I also like their Breakfast selection.
I think they kept the DD name purely for the Brand Legacy and its Awareness....But DD of today is the not the DD of pre-2000, it's now the direct competitor to Starbucks and instead of Krispy Kreme. I just wrote in another thread how in many cities there is a strong or establishing wars in Coffee Chains between DD and Starbucks. I swear in NYC almost everyone comes down on one side aisle or the other and they almost never cross over here.
North? Dunkin Donuts do not exist this far north. You will have to go further south than the PNW to find them. We are closer to Tim Horton's in Canada than any Dunkin Donuts. Dunkin Donuts is a Northeast thing. They are smart enough to know Starbucks is expensive and is crap. Starbucks is for suckers.
