But the new boom in ND isn't that long of a time frame when we are looking back to 1960 until now.

Rethinking it I would drop Florida and put in Colorado. Mainly because the 60's brought skiing to the masses and ski places were being carved out of any place with a vertical drop over a couple hundred feet. That HAS to have had an influence on CO's population that wasn't there before 1960.

On the slowest growth, Drop Ohio and West Virginia and swap in Iowa and Illinois.

(all of those are the ones I was just throwing out a wild guess the first time.)

Ok this means that Alaska is definitely in the top 5 and North Dakota is definitely in the bottom 5. Let's go from there!

EDIT New guess:

T5: Texas, Alaska, Utah, Florida, Nevada

B5: Ohio, West Virginia, Illinois, North Dakota, Pennsylvania

I know for a fact that West Virginia lost residents between 1960 and 1970. Then again between 1980 and 1990.

I believe Rhode Island, New York, North Dakota, and maybe South Dakota also lost residents and/or slow growing.

Florida, Nevada, Delaware, North Carolina, and just a guess, maybe Texas grew the fastest? I was thinking of Delaware because of its location and its tax status.

maybe I should sudy what has been posted already carefully but instead I'll "shoot first" with a key stroke or 2:
fastest: Texas, Arizona, Utah, Nevada & Florida.
slowest: Iowa, North Dakota, Maine, New York & Rhode Island.

Crap!
I just rode the elevator in my building & saw a weather map on the wall screen there & realized that West Virginia should be in the slowest list. I'd thus take out New York & be left with slowest as: Iowa, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Maine & West Virginia!
My fastest remain as: Texas, Arizona, Utah, Nevada & Florida.

If I can read the lists correctly, that makes them:
fastest: Florida, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Alaska

Slowest: Ohio, New Jersey, North Dakota, Rhode Island, West Virginia
