I do listen listen to flying lotus, they're pretty good. I would be the first person to tell you that I absolutely loath the generic "brostep" (what a horrible term) as well as the psuedo house acts like Avicii, David Guetta, Kaskade, Armin Van Buuren, etc. I recently sold my Electric Daisy ticket because I was under the impression that there would be some genuine authentic acts performing. But of course I was unpleasantly surprised when the lineup was released. No need to pay over 300 bucks to maybe catch a couple good acts.
I listen to a lot of chillwave, experimental hip hop, downtempo, glitch hop, melodic dubstep, and occasionally progressive house/trance.
Dude, chillwave is dope, I love experimental hip hop, and I used to listen to a lot of glitch hop! Have you heard of Knxwledge, Clams Casino, or James Blake?
Historically electro and techno aren't the same thing as brostep(or even really that close). Techno and electro have their roots in the early 80s with the original 808 and 909 drum machines and early techonology; Techno came out of Detroit and was sort of influenced by a mix of Kraftwerk and electro-funk and early house music--though it differed from house music with a focus on more sort of psychedlic electronic tones. Electro was sort of the next wave of funk in the early 80s, heavily based around those early drum sounds and heavily influenced some early hiphop(Afrika Baambaata). Bro-step seems to be a noisier and more agressive form of dub-step which was originally an offshoot of the drum 'n bass and 2-step styles. Techno itself is a genre that has had a ton of subgenres over the years.
They are all consdiered "electronic music" which is just a broad label for a ton of genres.
Flying Lotus is more eclectic, some of it would be considered experimental or ambient (or what used to be called IDM or intelligent and many that have hiphop beats... All in all, electronic music tends to be a little overly concerned with genre divisions, but there are some broad ones in terms of beats and sounds that make sense.
I see your point. I guess I just tend to be focused on the stuff I like, like the experimental and IDM stuff. And I agree we always want to come up with genre names, lol. I love artists like Rustie and Hudson Mohawke. All of the electronic music I listen to is not really made for "the masses" I guess haha.

A few artists that I like but can't pin down the genre (some glitch hop) are Paper Diamond, ill Gates, Tipper
As far as experimental hip hop goes my favorite artist is Flume

the real scene for good electronic music is Miami. Miami's electro scene started with Planet Rock and never died. A year ago, Fergie did a cover of Afro-Rican's 1986 electro track, "give it all you got". We have every style one can imagine and a Ultra always has great acts.
For New Year's Eve last year, NY and LA had rock for their street shows.
Miami had Pharrell spinning deeper house and Tiesto spinning darkhouse/trance.
In SoFL, our Caribbean infused culture with its inherent drum infused music was a natural fit for the electronic beats of dance music. I have been to every city mentioned and more. I really like the scene in Singapore and Bangkok too but nowhere is electronic music more entrenched and is the preferred music of more of the population than Miami
Miami has to be high up on the list. Miami has had electronic music since the early 80s and unlike in other places, electro didn't go downtempo to become hip hop. The Caribbean culture in SOFL found the Miami-bass-house-electro sound a natural fit for Caribbean rhythms.
For instance, last year, NY and LA had Rock for their New Years Eve street festivals. Miami had Pharell spinning funky house versions of Neptunes produced tracks with guest hosts. Then Tiesto played a pretty good dark house/trance set
