Hi,

I really really need your valuable advice here.

I have got the admission from UTD and IIT-Chicago. I already have 3 years of IT experience and I am travelling to US on L2 Visa.

Kindly suggest me which university I should choose based on the location Dallas, Tx or Chicago. I am concerned about the IT job opportunities in Dallas (and suburbs) & Chicago (and suburbs).

Please suggest me which location to choose. Thanks!

As someone who's spent much time in both cities, I'd go with Chicago by far unless you have major weather concerns. You also haven't listed the universities. Dallas is dead downtown and has very little culture for a city of its size, and I much prefer its sister city Ft Worth. Just don't like the vibes in Dallas at all. Chicago is a great international city and you can find nearly anything you want there.

Illinois Institute of Tech also has a by far better reputation in your field. The pay is also better in Chicago. Good luck!

I would say Chicago. I've been to Chicago on several times. Chicago is beautiful and has all kinds of job opportunities.

I currently live in Dallas and though it may be cheaper (not really by much as it's getting insanely expensive here) and the job prospects may be a bit better, as an international student/worker you need to evaluate your situation and consider if transportation will play a big factor in your decision. In Chicago you will not have any issues with public transportation if you need it whereas in Dallas, you WILL need a car and all its related expenses.

Additionally, like the prior poster mentioned, which schools are you considering? Higher education is at least considered way better than Dallas'. If you are considering something like UChicago (4th in the nation last year), nothing in Dallas comes even close!!

The two schools mentioned are University of Texas at Dallas and Illinois Institute of Technology.

I would suggest Dallas, though I don't know Chicago very well at all. Looking at Chicago's current economic state vs. Dallas', I personally would avoid Chicago for now until it can get its problems solved. Dallas has a decent unemployment rate and a lot of job opportunities in the tech field.

I have lived in both. Chicago

Weather - Chicago. Give me harsh winters over Satan's 6 month sauna any day of the week. Pollen from 3 major regions of the US create some of the worst allergy issues.
Rent - the same, but the apmts and flats in Chicago have more character and are more enjoyable than the cookie cutter complexes of Dallas
Topography - Chicago
Affordability - slight edge Chicago. electric bills in Texas get really high. You have to drive everywhere and gas is expensive.
Walkability - Chicago. You won't need a car. The nightlife is better, there is more to do. In Dallas, you will have a difficult time navigating the city without a car.
IIT over UTD.

Chicago. Better city, more culture, you have Lake Michigan, four seasons. It's going to be more expensive than Dallas, but you get what you pay for.

Chicago only really has two seasons - Winter and Summer (hot and cold). Fall and Spring are too short.
