Come to Boston (or any major city in the north) and say Dallas isn't a southern city/doesn't have southern roots and you will be laughed at.
Are you saying Southern and country go hand in hand?

No... one can be southern and not country BUT "country" definitely is an element that can be found in southern culture. That wasn't my main argument, my main argument was that it's ridiculous how some people from Houston and Dallas go through great lengths to disguise the Southern roots of their city.

Most don't do this disguise for Houston. Dallas though is different as it is in the crossroads of regions where the characteristics of regions have a presence such as the Great Plains, West, and of course the South even though it is in the South. Cities that are in states that are border states like Texas will always be questioned.

I would think Florida no? With the exception of the northern part of the state (like everything north of Orlando) the state doesn't feel southern at all. It feels like, well, Florida. Orlando doesn't feel southern, nor does Tampa, and the Miami metro and the city itself, don't feel southern at all! I mean in Tampa, Orlando and in the Miami metro, most people seem to be from the Northeast/Midwest or another country.
