LOL You know something, buddy? The exact SAME thought occurred to me. I wouldn't doubt it a bit. The same type irrationality, the same bizarre reasoning (if one could call it that at all), the same inane, and random putting together of numbers/letters to make a screen name, the same refusal to address direct questions with empirical evidence to counter, the obvious desire to get a rise out of someone for the attention it gets them, etc,?
Well they all make for an extremely good link between the two posters. I am stopping just short of saying the two are one and the same, but certain things seem to fall in place so obvious a blind man couldn't see it.
We regulars all know that the $mk character periodically appears and repeats the same old broken record then, when people catch on and he starts getting ignored? He will disappear for a time.
The next episode in the predicable sequence is for him to reappear after a measured length of time predicated on when more "newbies" come onto the forum and repeat the performance...and so it goes time after time and again.
In a nutshell, if $mk and Ynoh are not one and the same? Then my surmise is that they are probably either brothers or first-cousins!

1) They do not talk like Southerners.
2) They are not predominately Southern Baptist
3) They do not eat grits, rice, collard greens or other food typically associated with the South. (Delaware does eat a lot of fried chicken and blue crabs, though).
4) Sweet tea is not common is Delaware, and I don't believe pecan pie is a big thing.
5) Despite having essentially one major university (two if you count the HBCU), Delaware does not have a huge college football culture. Even during the season the team made the Div. IAA championship, fans would routinely leave at halftime.
But no one takes that guy seriously.

No, Maryland and Delaware have more of the classic Southern culture than Texas and Oklahoma because the latter two states didn't have the strong antebellum history preceding the Civil War, where as Maryland and Delaware did. Oklahoma was a Native American reservation, while Texas was its own country.
Just look at people like $mk8795, who insisted that Maryland is the south.

Baltimore and dc is a 3/8 fraction of maryland. It is not even the dominant culture of central and southern maryland. As soon as you leave the two beltways this state changes radically.
If you think the whole state of maryland is not southern because of two major cities, you are, frankly, too uneducated on the subject to make a valid statement.

Florida followed closely by Virginia. As a Virginian, I refer to my state as a Mid-Atlantic state. It sort of feels like it's a southern state in the middle of transiting into a northern one.
NOVA isn't all that different from suburban Atlanta...I'm not sure what some people think makes it non-southern. Development? Accents? An influx of outsiders? Lots of southern suburbs fit the same patterns.
The South is the only region that attracts such conversations...I've never heard a debate on which areas of the Midwest are no longer Midwestern or adamant posters frightened that their area may be included as part of the Northeast.
While that may be true, keep in mind that Delaware/Maryland/DC/NoVA are all geographically and economically affiliated with the Northeast, so it's much easier to consider them culturally northern than Atlanta. Likewise, if Kentucky were to receive a massive influx of transplants, it would be easier to consider northern than if Alabama did. I wouldn't call South Florida northern at all, just not really "southern".
Indiana had southern transplants near Kentucky, yes, but the state was settled by people from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York.
The only place in Indiana I hear southern accents is right down on the border. The rest sound Midwestern to me, especially from Indianapolis northward. They sound just like Michiganders.
If you think country culture and hick culture make a place southern, then color ninety percent of the country in Dixie, Buster.
Your perception of a southern accent is different from others. Not everyone lives in Louisiana. My vote goes to Maryland, and most people on this thread agree. It's below the M-D line, but their twangs (yes, there are southern twangs there) are not as thick as LA, or AL. Sure, there are twangs in other states, IN, etc, but geographically it is not the south. Yes, you have "hick culture" in places like Maine, but guess what? It's not in the south. There is more than one way to interpret southern depending on where you're from. That's what makes these discussions fun and interesting. Lighten up already.

This entire thread is pointless. There are southern states and states that have southern regions and history. You just have to understand that people are not gonna always give Maryland it's cred as a southern state. One of the basic symbols of the south is the confederate battle flag and people usually consider any state with a star on that flag to be southern or have a southern association.
