If you want to be near a beach in an area with decent wages and a cost of living that's not over the top, check out Jacksonville. There are many safe places to live and plenty of singles your age to network with in terms of friends or dating. It certainly has the best weather overall of the places on your list which is a nice perk as well.

It really all depends upon what the individual is looking for. A very dear friend of mine relocated to Jacksonville over a decade ago and loves it. The reason she moved to Portland was because her SO felt it would be the ideal place for them. She wasn't all that happy about Portland but they were happy together so it worked out. One of her problems was as time went by was she developed SAD and had to have medical attention to cope.

Unfortunately, her SO died in a car crash. Soon after she decided it wasn't worth dealing with the SAD to remain in Portland and she was not ever all that crazy about this city anyway.

Jacksonville was the place for her in every way. She found a great guy and they have been married for nearly ten years.

There is no reason that if you can find the majority of what you want in one place or better yet or even all of it when relocating, you should not settle for less just to flock to the places where all the other lemmings are migrating to.

+10

I wish I could copy and paste that to the end of each relocation thread on City-Data. It's a big country, do some investigating as there are many great places to live beyond the same half dozen mentioned on this forum ad-nauseum.

Thanks for the plus ten.

One thing to also keep in mind. When I moved to Portland about 35 years ago, it wasn't even a blip on most people's radar and that suited me just fine. But things change over the years and today it's one of those places people who have never even set foot in is the first place people suggest others as a city to relocate. That always amazes me. It's like someone saying. "Eat snails, I know you will love them," when they have never themselves ever tasted escargot. Especially when the person looking to relocate says they are allergic to all types of seafood.

Hi Merrie

You didn't mention it in your list, but would you consider living overseas?

I came over on a job contract in the mid 80's and somehow never left....... and do not regret it for a second.

Modern city, great medical care and facilities very very low cost of living, and as a matter of fact too many tourists now.

Tropical climate.

If you would consider overseas, get back in touch and I'll provide all the info you may want

Gonzo
