Dollydo, it sounds like you have found your perfect corner of the world!
For me I guess I don't want to go back to FL unless I gotta because there is no "other" perfect place in the country.
I sure do understand, I lived in Georgia for 8 years and you couldn't pay me to move back there...nor would I live in central Fl...we all have our own idea of "Paradise".

Dirt cheap little classes and activity center for 50+. (nothing like that)
But the rest...oh, I can't find a reason not to go road trip and see, and I live all the way in Tulsa!
And this wonderful place is ..........................DAHLONEGA, GA
Well done. Dahlonega is a lovely college town. It definitely has a lot of the items on your wish list. LOTS of festivals, particularly in the Fall.
can we go back to Dahlonega for a sec? I am also in early 50s looking for a place that has basically what OP is looking for (I was looking at aiken, sc but looks like crime has risen quickly there) except I want to volunteer at a animal farm rescue or wildlife rescue and am researching what is in the area. But how is it to live there? bad sections, good sections of town? rural sections? etc?
Bravo DubbleT, now you put some work into this! And you are right it does fit!
Thank you
