What border cities can you think of that belong in a different state than where they actually are and why? Here are a few I can think of.

Memphis - belongs in either Arkansas or Mississippi. The Mississippi Delta culture is a unique culture that dominates much of western Mississippi and eastern Arkansas, but is absent in Tennessee outside of the Memphis metropolitan area.

Louisville - belongs in Indiana. Louisville is actually becoming quite a hip place though many don't know it yet. A lot of young professionals and hipsters there. It's definitely quite different from the rest of Kentucky

Jacksonville - Should be in Georgia. Jacksonville, as far as I know as I haven't been there, is a Southern city and unique from the other major cities in Florida.

Mobile, AL - Definitely feels more like the Florida panhandle than the rest of Alabama.

NYC and Long Island should be part of New Jersey instead of NY State. Has much more in common with Jersey than the rest of NY State

St. Louis seems more Illinois than Missouri to me.

Kansas City should be in Kansas since it shares a name and to avoid confusion. A lot of people don't realize it's in Missouri.

Alot is an understatement, most would be more appropriate.

I actually totally agree. At the least, Staten Island logically should be part of NJ.

El Paso has much more in common with New Mexico than with Texas.

Western TN is still part of the MS delta. The Delta extends to all the way to just south of Cape Girardeau Missouri. SEMO is southern and Cotton is King.

Hayti, Caruthersville, Kennett, Sikeston, Benton Missouri are all in the MS Delta Region. The Bootheel Cotton is King and it's not the upper south hick southern like the Ozarks or KY, VA or WV.

I'd wager anything not Dallas, Houston or Austin is really just New Mexico.

True. Funny thing is though the typical Texas stereotype created by the old western movies centers on the western portion of the state much closer to El Paso than Houston, Dallas, or Austin.
