I suppose I get both positive and negative "energy" in every city I have been to.

Atlanta gives off a very positive vibe. That's the reason there are so many people moving there. Maybe it's different if your white?

Positive:
Atlanta
Orlando
Tampa
NYC (not Staten Island)
San Francisco

Negative:
DC
Chicago (BLEH)
Savannah, Ga (someone take this city to the 21st century plz)

Positive:
Chicago especially in the summertime & Downtown
Houston
Las Vegas
Minneapolis

Negative:
Atlanta
Memphis
Detroit
St. Louis definitely!

I would love to know why so many people feel like St. Louis gives off negative energy.

Something tells me that we would not agree on very much.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with this.

Perhaps it'll be better if people generally explain why or what they base their vibe off of. Using Miami as an example:

Positive vibe (based on a sense of vibrancy):
-Miami Beach
-Brickell
-Wynwood
-Little Havana (in the pockets I went to)
-Coral Gables
-(sometimes) Coconut Grove

Negative vibe
-Overtown
-Omni area just north of downtown
-North Miami Beach

The downtown "Flagler" area is block to block. I'd say mostly positive, but there's so much more it can be.

I can do the same with DC.

What are your positive, negative, and neutral vibes that you get in some of DC's neighborhoods if I may ask?

For DC:

Negative Vibes: Anywhere within the Beltway
Neutral Vibes: Anywhere outside the Beltway
Positive Vibes: Anywhere outside the DC Area

The upper northwest (i.e. Tenleytown, Chevy Chase, Spring Valley): Sleepy, so I'd call that neutral.
Georgetown: More positive than negative, even if I don't care for the people.
The National Mall: I want to say negative, but one look at the brilliant architecture of the Capitol Building, the Library of Congress or the White House makes me happy, so positive.
Chinatown: I don't get negative vibes per say, but it tries too hard.
Capitol Hill (along PA Ave): Turning positive.
Barracks Row: Positive.
Eastern Market: Positive. I don't go down there enough.
Southwest: Negative. What a depressing waste. It's a shame that there was once a neighborhood there.
Adams Morgan: Positive until about two a.m. on a Friday.
Dupont Circle: Positive
Shaw: Positive - there are sketchy places, but this is the area with energy in the city.
Columbia Heights - things get block-to-block up there, but I love the immigrant flair to the area when you get away from the bright metro station area.
Petworth and up: It's getting better, but mostly negative.
H St NE: The area right by Union Station is negative, but once you get to the bar area, it's pretty positive.
Brookland/Edgewood/Other areas of the NE: Negative. There just isn't a lot to do and it looks generally depressed.
Anacostia: By reputation, depressed, though I plead ignorance.
