I'm leaving Florida for good and want to hear your favorite picks that fit my wants and have as many of the following as possible:

1) Four Seasons- Including snow
2) Younger Population- ( many young families would be nice )
3) Friendly People - not old retirees who hate everyone
4) Lower cost of living - $1,200 month for a duplex or house?
5) Low Crime
6) Close to the Mountains
7) Lot's of scenery ( old oaks, lakes, old homes, red brick, etc)
8) Job Market - stable or improving
9) Green Spaces / parks / etc.
10) NO cookie cutter / strip malls / walmart driven areas
11) Your Dream place to raise a family ( sidewalks, colonial homes, etc..)

Thanks in advance!

Ithaca NY hits almost all of those except for mountains. I don't know if hills and valleys will be good enough though. Mountains like the Poconos, the Catskills and the Adirondacks are only about 2 hours away, give or take.

A sleeper may be Morgantown WV, which is another college town with mountains close by. Charlottesville, Blacksburg and Harrisonburg in VA may work too.

I think this will be a hard sell being that you don't want any suburban areas in the vicinity whatsoever.

But I'd say check out Charlottesville, VA, Greenville, SC, Huntsville, AL, or northwest Arkansas (Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers metro area) for starters.
