What would you say are good, safe, but affordable areas to live?
I would look hard at the Oak Lawn/Cedar Springs area as well as the Bishop Arts area. Both are very vibrant, offer great food, nightlife, and places to live. Both also are home to a larger number in the LGBT community. I wouldnt say they are the cheapest areas of town to reside, but you can find something to suit you no doubt should you choose Dallas.

Thanks! I'll write those down and look up apartment prices and stuff. And check proximity to a possible work commute and such.

Maybe I misunderstood you, but I think you were - to put it succinctly - saying that you don't like "femmy" guys, that you have a really clear idea of what constitutes "guyness" for you ... but then, maybe I'm reading between the lines too much. What I was suggesting was that I used to judge people on appearance and mannerism way too much, but I've been much happier since I just accepted people as they are, going with the flow. I hope that clarifies.

As for Texas, I agree with this as well as the Montrose/Midtown area of Houston. I am a 31 yo professional gay man who has lived in both. (Longer in Dallas, but prefer Houston). Both have very active communities with all types of guys so I am sure you could find a place to fit in. Dallas and Houston are not NYC, LA or SF but they hold their own for being in the South and from the sound of things you probably would like both. Austin is a great place but just isn't on the same level when it comes to the LGBT community.

Why not just send your resume out to places in the cities you have on your short list, and see what happens? A lot of them could work.

I'm not sure what specifically your function is in the healthcare/medical field, but Houston houses the Texas Medical Center, which is the largest medical district in the world and home to lots of superstars... great place to work and get some good experience on your resume.

I'm not sure, either LOL! I think I might be coming off wrong, and maybe you anticipating me coming off wrong too...

I'm not being judgmental at all. I have some straight friends that act more "femmy" than the "femmy" gays. I think we all know some like that. I don't care what "type/mold" the guy is. That's how he is, just like that's how I am. Or that's how he choses to represent himself. I'm fine with that. I'm just saying I know exactly what type of person I'm looking for. I know what features I like physically and especially what he stands for in his character!

The problem with where I am, these don't align very well. It's not a judgment at all. I just know that no amount of trying on my part will force me to connect with someone if I'm not into it. Sure, if I get along with him I'll be friends with a "femmy" guy. But in terms of a relationship, it just ain't happening.... I share no common interests. I'm not basing everything on looks, even though it sounds like it. I just know based on my past what a guy that's good for me will stand for. If you're good for me and good to me, I don't care about much else.

I'm glad you mentioned Austin. No one has been able to tell me much, but I constantly read about it. But it's hard to really get a grasp reading published and edited text.

Can you send me a private message if you don't mind?

I work in orthopedic rehab. My setting won't necessarily be in a hospital, but more geared toward independent clinics or outreach settings managed by a hospital/sports/corporation/insurance group.
It's pretty flexible but they're selective.

I have sent resumes to places in Colorado and I've found a couple in Texas. Unfortunately a lot of them need people in very rural areas, which is counterproductive to my current goal. I'm looking for ones in the city but also searching for ones even a short suburban commute.

So those pretty much cap off my short list. There are also some ones in Florida I haven't looked at yet. I'm a member of 3 different private job listing groups and throw out dozens of listings daily so the search is on. And I also have a headhunter and am networking with people I know, or friends of friends, who may be able to help.

The thing with the giant list is I don't know much about those other areas and I want to find out those.

For example:
1) Why the hell is Albuquerque on that list?? What is so special about it?
2) Las Vegas would seem like a really good place, but what else is there to Vegas beside the touristy shinny lights and casinos? That, I don't know.

Anything NorCal, Arkansas or Louisiana -> NorCal sucks in general; AR and LA, really?

Um, Boise is not in the midwest or plains states. There are a fair amount of young gay professionals in Boise who enjoy living in the Northern Rockies with mountains adjacent to the city

I was waiting for someone to point out where I put Boise! HAHA! I couldn't really find a good place for it and it didn't belong with Washington and Oregon.

One of my best friends in college was from Boise and at one point I mentioned a new place that was hiring. He didn't really have much good things to say about Boise. He now lives in KC.
