If you had 20k in the bank, basically no debt, a beat up car but will do the job, where would you go off to?

There's lots of threads about high rolling jobs or if you could live anywhere but for most of us that probably isnt reality. So where would you go if you had 20k in your bank and no reason left to stick around where you're at?

For criteria:
- Job market
- Cost of living
- Weather
- Outdoor Activities
- Quality of Life
- Air quality
- Access to other areas
- Great food
- Good music
- Demographics / Religion / Politics

I really dont care much about the criteria, only put it there as a starting point so the thread doesnt get closed, y'all can make up more topics, less topics, or anything else.

Job market for what job? Weather, outdoor activities, food etc. for what kind of preferences? What sort of friends and families do you have in which cities and how important is that to you?

Will I have income when i get there?

If I had income and didn't need to find a job in one place, I think I'd get a $20,000 motorhome and a dog. Then I wouldn't have to choose :-)

Without knowing more I would say Nashville. Although you listed a number of criteria it isn't clear where you fall with respect to them. So, for example, when you say "demographics" is a criterion, it isn't clear what you mean. But again, I nominate Nashville. Beautiful area, good music scene, lots going on, many outdoor activites and nightlife. Decent cost of living, middle of the country so accessing other places isn't horrible. It does get hot and sticky in the summertime though.

No you dont have an income, you've got 20k in your bank, no debt, no job.

Thats why one of the top criteria is the market. I mean some might go to NYC where that may last a year. Others may go to Omaha where it could last a few years if it had to. I'm just looking for where others would consider going and why.

Oh ... you don't have income for the forseeable future? So basically, if we had 20k bucks to our name, where would we go to ride it out? or something?

I do not understand the question.

What does $20k have to do with where you live?

A place with a low cost of living and low unemployment, the rest can more or less fall into place. That said I would recommend Salt Lake City (4.3% unemployment), Des Moines (4.6%), Omaha (4.6%) or Oklahoma City (4.8%).
