So does anybody know any interesting, strange, funny or bizarre mascots for high schools that you've heard of? I was inspired to ask because someone posted on here about the Omaha Benson Bunnies and how they got their name (apparently, a rival football coach played at Benson, and said "we came to play the bunnies, not benson" because their football field was filled with rabbit holes)

A few more I know of in Nebraska are the Fairbury Jeffs (named after them being in Jefferson County, with the Monopoly guy as their mascot), The Columbus Discoverers, Holdredge Dusters (as in Crop Dusters I think), Cozad Haymakers, Gothenburg Swedes, Mercy Monarchs (as in butterflies, since it's an all girls school, though people often think Papillion-La Vista is the Monarch Butterflies since Papillion has a butterfly on its water tower) Lincoln Links (as in chain links).
There are only a few i know from other states. Sheldon IA Orabs (stands for orange and black, though some think it means arabs), Akron Westfield IA Westerners, Vermillion SD Tanangers ( never knew it was a bird until someone told me), Yankton SD Bucks (not too different, but it used to be bucks as in Indian YOung Bucks), Maryville MO Spoofhounds, Sturgis SD Scoopers.

Those are all I know, anymore weird HS mascots?

One of my favorites is from Fluvanna County High School in Virginia. They're the Flying Flucos. The legend is that during a live radio broadcast ages ago, the announcer shouted "Look at those Flucos go!", in his excitement combining the words Fluvanna and County. The name stuck. The logo is a winged foot (Mercury).

I immediately thought of the Benson Bunnies. LOL. It's not high school, but Nebraska used to be called the Bugeaters.
