Yet, there have to be places that are beautiful and have a decent supply of jobs. They may be expensive but I don't care. Example: San Diego on the beach. Looking for ideas like that too.

I have heard that Portland pours while Seattle sprinkles. Is this true? I imagine I'd like sprinkling more than pouring but how do you experience it?

No, they can be about the same much of the time--they actually get fairly similar weather and total precipitation totals are pretty close. Portland actually seems to get a little warmer in the summer since it's more inland in some ways.
Both are worth checking out, along with somewhere like Bellingham. Bellingham is great for the outdoors, it's a beautiful spot close to Mount Baker and the North Cascades and British Columbia is just an hour or so away.
