Like most anywhere jobs can be somewhat difficult, but surely wouldn't eliminate it as an option without trying.
How is the cost of living and the job market for IT types?

What did you ever decide? Your criteria is very much the same as mine. I am in the desert and need the Ocean. I tried Bellingham Wa which was wonderful. Completely loved it. 10 min walk to trader joes and farmers market as well as outdoor restaraunts. Could bike, walk or bus to marina, downtown, library, museums and always something going on. Really loved the people. My son has autism and there are a lot of services and help for him there. I would move back in a heartbeat if there was more sun. Services for my son is a must. Both of us have serious allergies in the desert. Rarely had problems in Washington. Unfortunately I have the seasonal depression thing and after a year we are back in the desert. I hate the desert. Beautiful but too hot. I need water, preferably the ocean. So where did you end up?
