The FBI not too long ago released their 2012 city crime statistics.

The 25 largest US cities with populations over 620,000 are ranked.

This list looks at per capita crime within the city limits of these cities, not in county areas or smaller cities/towns nearby.

The FBI uses 2012 crime statistics in 7 categories (murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, and car theft). A per capita number of all crime is used to build an overall score.

Remember this is only a historical snapshot from 2012. Cities can see crime increase or decrease quickly depending upon different factors.

The full crime report for 2012 is at
FBI — Crime in the U.S. 2012

Interesting list here. Nothing really surprised me too much except for San Francisco being in the top 10 though. This list tells me that Houston and San Antonio are especially dangerous because they have annexed a good deal of land, yet their defined city limits still have considerably high crime.

Somethings wrong with that list.

Either they decided not to include it for whatever reason or they did not get adequate statistics for Columbus.

Because their crime tends to be overstated and over-exaggerated by the media leading the US population to believe that Philly and Chi are really worse for crime than they are because they have a higher murder rate due to drug/gang culture in bad areas of the city. When it comes to overall crime, Chi and Philly have less crime than the others listed above them.
