I'm not sure Dallas is more affordable than Buffalo or Orlando. With Buffalo, you may be able to get away with not having a car or have one with minimal use, as there are some walkable neighborhoods and decent public transportation(inc. rail/subway line).

Actually Orlando isn't that affordable, especially when factoring average income. It has one of the lowest average incomes in the country and disproportionately high apartment rental rates, car and home insurance rates, health insurance rates, food costs and transportation costs.
