Mainly looking at rent here. Not having a car would be great too but not entirely necessary.

Edit: yikes forgot to add New Orleans to the poll

I'm not sure Dallas is more affordable than Buffalo or Orlando. With Buffalo, you may be able to get away with not having a car or have one with minimal use, as there are some walkable neighborhoods and decent public transportation(inc. rail/subway line).

Actually Orlando isn't that affordable, especially when factoring average income. It has one of the lowest average incomes in the country and disproportionately high apartment rental rates, car and home insurance rates, health insurance rates, food costs and transportation costs.

Dallas is probably the most affordable with it's low cost of living and relatively high salaries.

Unemployment rates as of July 2013:

Buffalo - 10.2%

Denver - 7.2%

Dallas - 6.9%

Orlando - 6.5%

Ft. Lauderdale - 5.9%

Seattle - 4.7%

Dallas is the best option. Higher salaries to lower COL & low unemployment.

This sounds about right and the Buffalo metro unemployment rate is 7.3%, not 10%: Unemployment Rates for Metropolitan Areas
