According to the Michigan County Maps the term is supposedly Indian for "looking glass" or "mirror smooth pond or river" in which one can see their image. I believe that has been disputed, however.
Anybody know otherwise?
I do not think anybody knows as there are so many interpretations. The most common belief is that it means "bubbling water" and "boiling water". Those two, much better describe the Kalamazoo River than "mirror smooth".

Well in Pennsylvania it takes about 15 minutes to get from Blue Ball to Intercourse. To get from there to Paradise it takes 24 minutes if you can find the Gap. But only 15 minutes via Bird in Hand. It could take close to an hour if you go through Brownstown.
Besides various Mayvilles, the only populated place in the US with a name starting with he name of a month is June Lake, California, with 600 residents.
