A town in Virginia has a joke about their own pronunciation. The saying goes, "In the winter it's Freeze. In the summer it's Fries."
(Really, it's spelled Fries and pronounced Freeze.)

Seeing as that is my brother-in-law's last name it is robe-less. He is not making it white or anything. That is how it has been pronounces his entire life even when he grew up in Cuba. Now Paso Robles is pronounced as robe-less, but no one pronounces it that way. A lot of people just call it Paso.
Cayucos is a fun one. I personally don't know how anyone can pronounce it incorrectly. Ky-you-kus. It's Chumash and means little boat.

There is a laFAYette GA (long "a", accent on the second syllable) and a LAfayette TN (soft "a", accent on the first syllable), both spelled the same.
Up here, we have a lot of Eskimo and Russian names, so it's always interesting to hear tourists with Kenai (kee nigh), Ninilchik, Nikolaevsk, Kasiloff, Razdolnah, Vosnesenka, Kachemak Selo, Denali (even locals can't agree on this one!), Tok, Nenana, Tanana, Nanwalek...

In Michigan we have:
Mackinac Island
Charlevoix
Sault Sainte Marie
Munising
Escanaba
Ishpeming
Marquette
Keweenaw Peninsula
Ontonagon
Epoufette
Onekama
And many others, scattered all over the state you will find towns and places with names nobody but the locals pronounce "correctly" Most are in the UP portion of the state due to the French and Indian influence.

LOL YES! It irritates me when people put the apostrophe in the wrong spot on y'all. I make typos all the time but I do know the dropped letter theory, lol.
I learned a couple of new ones since we are moving to Va shortly. The county we are moving to is Botetourt, pronounced "Bot-a-tot"? How, I have no idea. And there is a town in Botetourt, Buchanan, pronounced "Buck-cannon". Those are only 2 in one county that I am learning so far, lol.
I live in Monroe, and it drives me crazy to hear people say "MON-roe" it's MUN-roe!

In Nevada (which,BTW,is pronounced Neh-Va-DAH not NAW-Vaw-DAH) there's a town called Tonopah.
I've heard it mispronounced a number of different ways...
It's TOE-No-PAH
