Green? Not too hot? Rain? Liberal? Educated?

Geeeeeeeeez, this is the biggest no-brainer I've ever seen on this site.

Seattle or Portland.

My thoughts exactly! If I was just getting out of school and could live anywhere, the pacific northwest has always been on my list.

We'll be sticking to apartments for the next few years and just plan to live like college students for awhile longer so that we can put away enough money to buy some land and start on building a house.
Sounds like your best plan would be to simply gut out living in Akron for the three more years or so that you need to bank money before moving to Canada. Akron is definitely cheaper than the PNW, and if you stay you could avoid the cost of relocating.

Baltimore Book Festival

This may be right up your husband's and your alley. Baltimore is certainly quirky enough for an author and a librarian. Quite a few writers have been from here. And.... you'll never have to worry about biting your tongue!!

Go West. My nephew goes to school in Eugene and I think it is really nice out there. Not sure about the cost of renting though.

I agree the pacific NW sounds like it could be for you. If not there possibly the Chesepeak Bay area.

From what I hear, librarian jobs are not a dime a dozen. I have some friends in the field. I would suggest finding the job first. I would agree that Akron may not be a bad place for inexpensive living. You could also try W. PA. Pittsburgh is a fairly liberal city, anyway, plenty of liberals there.
