With my job, I can live anywhere in the US(or the world for that matter). Sounds like I'm in a good position, but im kind of overwhelmed by all the choices! So I want you guys to pick for me, and give a little sales pitch here.
A little info about me:
28 years old male
85k salary (location has no effect)
Single and looking (would like to have a family someday)
Most college friends live in Grand Rapids, MI; Detroit area; Chicago
Most Military friends (I'm a veteran) live in the Carolina's, Hampton Roads area, Seattle, and San Diego
I can live anywhere and I'm open to all suggestions, the following areas though would make life a little easier with my profession however:
LA/Long Beach
Houston, TX
Oakland, CA
New Orleans, LA
Tampa, Fl
Jacksonville, Fl
Charleston, SC
Norfolk, VA
Cleveland, OH
I've lived in bigger cities, rural areas, and everything in between and found that all have their pros and cons. Having grown up in the North I'm a little over winter weather, and I would want to be closer rather than further from amenities (ie major airports, concert venues, etc).
Also, my income does not change from location to location, so I suppose cost of living would be another factor, in order to get the most bang for my buck. But you do get what you pay for, and having visited Hawaii I can definitely understand why people pay absurd amounts of money to live there.
For a better bang for the buck with nearly year-round warm weather, a major airport, pro sports and concert venues I would suggest Tampa/St Petersburg. Downtown St Pete in particular has been trending up and is a fun place to live with great beaches an easy 15 minutes away.
Houston may be another good fit given COL, the weather and the size.
