What median income makes an area affluent?
At what median income is an area considered to be affluent? Personally, I'd say in the general range of in excess of $100,000. However, this only applies to areas with more than 10,000 residents.
If an area of 3,000 has a median income of $95,000, I do not consider that affluent because it's such a small population. However, if an area of 40,000 has a median income of $95,000, I'd be more inclined to consider it wealthy because there's obviously going to be a much larger number of individuals making well in excess of that figure.
What median income makes an area affluent?

Hey buddy, you're not going to get very many replies with that kind of hostility.
But to answer, I would say per capita income is a more accurate measurement. An area with a per capita income greater than $35,000 seems pretty affluent to me.

If you take in enough income in one year to buy a median home outright with cash, you are affluent.

That is a good measure that accounts for the huge differences in median house prices and cost of living in different areas. There are places where $35k a year is poor and people making that can be homeless.

median income (typically household) simply means they take all the incomes of the households in an area. A number is found directly in the middle that directly divides the pool of incomes into equal halfs. That is the median.
An average is where they talk all the house hold incomes of an area and divided by the number of house holds in the area. The result is an average house hold income.
these are simply mathematical terms.

Take a look at this thread http://www.city-data.com/forum/gener...household.html
You'll see that there are really no large cities with that high of a median income.
