I'm American and I don't eat fast food.

So, OP. You'll have to come to America and ask each one of us individually why we like McDonalds so much. All 300 million of us...

until then your questions is laughable.
And let's be real here, shall we... McDonalds does quite well in Canada among other fast food chains. Why do Canadians like McDonalds so much? I mean, business for micky d's is booming in Canada.

McDonalds is based in the U.S. - that usually has something to do with popularity. I guess you could ask the same question about any restaurant based in any country. I'm thinking that people eat McDonalds because it's fast and it's cheap - not because it's good.

But the fact that there are 34,000 restaurants around the world with about 1/3 located in the U.S. tells me that it is pretty popular worldwide. No?

My daughter spent six months in Chengdu, in the Szechuan Province in Central China. Chengdu is China's fourth-largest city.

She became a vegetarian while she was there because she saw too much of what the Chinese eat (she sent home a picture of a Chinese food cart with fried scorpion on a stick).

Late at night coming home from clubs she and her friends would stop at McDonald's to get fries. There were street carts at 4 a.m., but she knew she was eating potatoes.

McDonalds is popular pretty much everywhere on the planet. In fact, per-unit sales tend to be much higher outside of the U.S. than in the U.S. And market share has been plummeting in the U.S.

If anything, you could be asking why Americans don't like McDonalds as much as everywhere else.

McDonalds is disgusting, BTW. Unless you have kids begging for Happy Meals, I will never understand why anyone goes there. There are always cheaper, healthier and better tasting options.

I think this is a big part of it. Driving across the US, you see McDs and you know exactly what to expect. They are also usually clean, with clean bathrooms. You felt safe stopping there with your family, no matter where you were. They are also very smart at marketing their brand.

It's cheap and people know what they are getting. And it isn't only Americans. McDonald's is popular in other countries as well. I have been to the UK and Canada and the McDonald's there were just as popular as any I have seen here. I bet that's true in other countries as well. But really, who cares? If you like them, fine, if you don't, no one is forcing anyone to eat there.

The food is inexpensive and feels you up quick. Mcdonald's has been booming during this country's poor economic climate.

McDonald's is gross... people say at McDonald's you know what you're getting but I don't think people really know the extent of additives and other things that are put in the food. And Chicken McNuggets? Disgusting. And McDonald's has a really irritating ability of taking things that are supposed to be healthy and making them just as fattening as everything else on the menu. Like pumping as much sugar in the oatmeal as what's in a Snicker's bar.

The only time I ever went to McDonald's was when I lived in Spain because they actually served decent beer there that was pretty cheap and we only went for the beer.

McDonald's doesn't use the pink slime anymore due to all of the negative publicity associated with it. As you can see it didn't slow down McDonald's overall profits.
