I live in one now on the 10th floor, its nice a beautiful view of downtown Portland, The hills behind downtown as well as Mt Hood and the mountains. I don't think I would want this type of living for the rest of my life, but for now it is very nice.

I prefer low-rise living myself but love to visit people who live in highrises. My preference has less to do with safety than it does scale. I just like knowing who the people in my building are and using a few flights of stairs rather than an elevator all the time.

Oh you mean one of those human filing cabinets?

The first thing I think of is imagine bringing home just enough grocery bags that require several trips? Man that could take all night.

And like some one mentioned. Dogs. They do come first. Having a dog in one of those human filing cabinets is cruel.

I would prefer not to, but don't fault others for doing so. It is pretty ironic; because I love dense cities. The densest cities, though, are formed from Paris style density -- where 3-6 story buildings are commonplace. Even most New Yorkers live in mid-rises.

/\Most people who live in urban areas don't go and buy a week's worth of groceries. Most highrise dwellers would not have a large, domestic animal either. Instead, they have a cat and live within a couple blocks of a grocer and can make multiple trips. your food is fresher. People adapt to wherever they live. When you live on five acres, you get to mow a lawn.

Of course, you only need to mow the lawn if you plant grass in the first place. There are plenty of other ground coverings you can plant.

But getting back to skyscrapers, I think it would be fun to stay in a place so high up that you could be above the weather and look down on it.
