I'm about 6'2" (I'm by far the tallest amongst my friends and family) and live in Missouri, and I'm taller than nearly everybody here (there are a few guys who are 6'3-6'4", but even those are uncommon). I standout at 6'2" here, although I did recently run into a family of tall guys who were all like 6'4-6'5" (I have issues with perspective, so might've been taller). Even in a state like North Dakota, I feel tall (along with Minnesota) as it was uncommon to spot somebody shorter than me. I feel as if New York City is the tallest city since I would run into at least one 6'3"+ guy in every group of people. I feel tall at 6'2 otherwise (considering the fact that everybody appears taller than they actually are in my eyes to where I see myself as shorter by them when I'm actually taller than them sometimes) and would feel towered over by a 6'4" guy if it wasn't for considering perspective. Do you feel short, below average, average, above average or tall where you live?
I am a 5'11" male, and I feel short, because there are many tall people from other places in Central North Carolina.
I'm 6'3. I feel tall regardless of where I am. I grew up in Upstate NY. I've also lived in Indiana, Ohio, and New Mexico. Now I live in Philly. I think the place I felt the tallest was New Mexico.
I won a bet in 1980 at Statistics coming up with census information on the median average height of a male: 5' 7". Most people think it's much, much taller than that because you notice taller people, but it's a myth.
In LA on the east side last year I rarely saw males taller than me, but the demographic is latino, Vietnamese and southern Chinese. If I went to Hollywood or Venice my guess is I'd see taller, younger, athletic, model types much taller.
I'd also see more boob jobs, too. From all over the place, they come to LA. So it's a distortion from everywhere. And it's a myth. The percentage of men over 6' is less than 2% of the North American population. That's why it's so hilarious in personnel adds to see women "mandating" that men be over 6". You've just asked for less than 2% of the population to respond to your ad!
I am exactly six feet in DFW. I feel short compared to other guys around my age.
