I don't think it's military. There are a lot of military bases on the east coast.

There are tens of millions of young people up and down the east coast. I'm still pretty young and there is definitely reluctance to date outside your race on the east coast among the my generation.

I think the west coast had a jump on the rest of the country. Cowboy culture was multi-ethnic with many close nit groups made up of; Scotch Irish, Native American, Mexican and African American. Some of the early groups were; Chinese, Spanish, Mexican, Native American, Basque, and the Imperial Valley was settled by Punjabi.

The east was settled in large ethnic enclaves with each ethnic group coming over in waves. Sometimes an entire Parish would come over at the same time as oppose to the west being settled with more disparate groups or even one man at a time starting with French fur trappers, Trail Busters, and Buffalo skinners.

I don’t know much about the specific role of east coast military bases as compared to west coast bases. Maybe west coast military men were exposed to more “exotic “locations as opposed to east coast military men exposed to familiar European locations, meaning bringing home a French ,German or Italian wife was not as exotic as bringing home an Asian or Pacific Rim wife.

Maybe because it has more Mexican influence than the east. Their culture was not based on racism like most of the yahoo hick states, ya know.

Someone from the east coast is just as likely to be stationed in a place like Korea as someone from the west coast. I don't think the military has anything to do with the social patterns between the east and west.

From my own experience as an Indian guy engaged to a white woman (blonde with blue eyes and good looks, gets told she looks like Heather Graham a lot), I think it is because the White population on the west coast is generally more accepting than the one on the east coast. Lets face it, America is still a mostly white country.

When I went to NYC with my fiance, I noticed how cold and hostile people were towards us and how some even said racist things openly. I wondered why and even posted a thread on it. Eventually, a native New Yorker was kind enough to tell me that race plays a HUGE role in a man's social value in a place like NYC. So seeing a brown guy, no matter how rich and attractive, with a good looking blonde in NYC will definitely turn heads and get the disapproval of the people in the rich areas of the city who only see white men as being the desired group.

Here on the west coast, I have never faced such racism my entire life. I grew up watching men of all races date white women and no one cared one bit. One of my good friends from high school is a latino who looks like Adam Rodriguez (the actor), he is engaged to this pale skinned redhead that is just gorgeous and they hardly face problems. You can walk around Southern California and I guarantee that you will see Asian and Brown men (from Mexican to Persian to Indian) with white women and no one will care at all. When I stayed in NYC, such interracial couples were extremely rare.

I think that the west just values race less than the east coast. My experience of staying in NY left me a bit traumatized but I am over it now.

The post wasn't bad until this subtle jab portion. Notice the one race that is conveniently left out. I can't wait for the day I attain a profession that allows me to permanently relocate outside the United States.

Something I have noticed in Houston is the vast majority of Black and white mixed people, seem to identify as Black. I haven't met a single mixed person of those 2 races that identify as white, I have met a few that identify as mixed of course.
