I would like to know which one would be a better fit as I get closer to retirement age. Some of the things I am looking for:
Best Beach Vibe
Low Crime Rate
Most Affordable
Climate
Better Airport
Thanks in Advance
I would opt for Pensacola. The climates will be fairly similar as Pensacola can get surprisingly cold in the Winter. Myrtle Beach has a better airport with more airline options though Pensacola does have decent service with three major airlines. The crime rates are a wash with both having allegedly "high" crime rates but neither is particularly dangerous with the "bad areas" well segregated from where you're likely to live or spend time in. Pensacola Beach has a nicer vibe while Myrtle Beach in my opinion can be quite tacky in places (like Atlantic City NJ for example) and as a result doesn't attract as desirable a tourist as Pensacola Beach. Pensacola also has a thriving historic downtown area which Myrtle Beach does not have. The cost of living is also slightly lower in Pensacola.
Or, more importantly, a hop, skip, and jump away on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay in Alabama. Towns such as Fairhope are pretty great. Myrtle Beach, meanwhile, is very much a tourist town.
