Hi y'all. I was hoping that folks here on the forum could provide me with insight on areas to consider relocating to in NC (or middle to NE Tn).
A little about what I'd like...
I am a single (40-something) Christian who is interested in getting to a smaller town (The county where I currently live, Pinellas County, where St. Pete is home to over 1 million people, has gotten ridiculous! Jammed packed roads, never-ending road construction, cost of living on the rise, but salaries are stagnant!) with parks, gyms, hiking, good schools, a small community feel, concerts, festivals, non-denominational churches, and good quality single men (kidding - sort of ). The idea of a smaller, quaint historical, laid back town & people appeals to me (I am originally from the Gulf Coast of Ms.) that is close to larger town with amenities, such as sporting events, shopping, performing arts, etc. The cost of living needs to be reasonable (Ideally, a 2/1-3/2 house for under $1300) since I am a single teacher, who is currently in a Master's program.
I am looking at Almance-Burlington, Chatham, Guilford, Charlotte, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Wake counties in NC or
Murfreesboro, Knoxville, Clarksville, Brentwood, and Johnson City in Tn.
I know my location search is broad, but I'm open to the possibilities. God has a plan, I am just trying to get an idea of what towns in NC or TN offer so I can pray, and hand it over to Him. (Don't mean to get "holy roller-ish.)
I appreciate any insight y'all could provide on NC or TN.
Thank you!

Check WRAL.COM and look at the stories about what's been going on with teacher pay here. Teachers and state employees haven't had a raise in 5 years. Insurance premiums just keep going up--I think they've risen something like 18% in the last 3-4 years, with no pay raise. They're taking more and more away from the teachers and expecting them to do a lot more with a lot less.
Just a suggestion but you might consider places in South Carolina like Charleston/Mt Pleasant, Columbia, Newberry, Greenville, Spartanburg or Rock Hill which are thriving somewhat and offer what you're looking for as well.
