Last Summer I saw a black guy standing and holding a Confederate flag by a statue in Asheville, NC.

It was...strange.

Hurley, Virginia, the city where the high school is located is evenly split 50/50 black and white.

There's no way that is accurate. Hurley doesn't have over 6k in population. Hurley has less than 1k people living there.

You're right, the information is wrong. Hurley has a little over 3000 people but only 5 of them are black.

The reason I ask is that they seem to be acceptable in some areas but not others. They seem considerably more prominent in South-Central Appalachia than the deeper south based on my travels but i've obviously not been EVERYwhere in the deep south.

So...If you're from the south...are they pretty visible where you are and if they are...do people have a quarrell with them or no?
I live in Georgia, and (for the most part) the rednecks love them but the blacks hate them.

Rebel flags might be seen in the south, but they are far from acceptable. Most people find them totally offensive.
You would have a hemorrhage over the guy in Warner Robins flying a Nazi flag in his yard.

Many blacks fought in the civil war right alongside whites and for those families, they see the Confederate Flag as a proud reminder.
