I hate wind. What is the least windy part of the country, do you think? (I like where I live and I'm not planning to move -- I live in Phoenix and it's not overly windy, but I used to live in Chicago and we know what that's like!)
Any places out there where the wind is just not that big of a presence on the weather scene?
In terms of metro areas the least windy are Atlanta, Savannah, Columbia SC, Charleston, Charlotte, Birmingham, Tampa Bay, Miami-Ft Lauderdale, Jacksonville and Orlando.
I figured there would be some Florida areas in there. I lived in FL for a little bit and I can definitely see Orlando being very low on the windy list.

That is a really cool map = thanks for sharing. I am surprised that the Oregon Coast shows up so low on the wind scale so to speak. I have never lived in Oregon and love the coast but I figured with the way the weather changes on that coast that the area would have more wind.
I am also surprised that Florida and Texas show up with more wind.

Oregon may show up low today, but check back tomorrow, and the next day. The map is showing wind speed/direction in close to real time. These aren't averages.

I can't speak for the inland city's, but the coastal places such as Savannah, Charleston, FL's whole east coast, as well as other coastal city's further up the coast, are far from the least windy places. Front's come in and stall, Northeasters (common in winter) form off the Carolinas and slowly move up the coast. Other reasons as well can contribute to coastal wind for several days lingering on the coast as well as afternoon sea breezes.
