It's a shame that so many wonderful, historic cities in America are filled with nasty people who have no respect for others or their neighborhood. American cities would probably be a lot more vibrant, a lot more dense, and a lot less sprawling if only certain ghetto folk living in our urban cores hadn't ruined things for everyone by causing crime and graffiti, which is a huge reason why so many people fled into the suburbs in the first place.
Whu ... ?! America's cities didn't turn "ghetto"' because "ghetto folk" moved in and ruined things for everybody, they turned "ghetto" because middle class WHITE people panicked and abandoned perfectly decent neighborhoods at the first sign of diversity, which often caused real estate values to plummet and retailers to make a mass exodus. The end result: Formerly nice areas were, within a very short period of time, reduced to less-than-desirable, and the underclass took over.
That's nonsense. Poverty is poverty, no matter how you slice it. How are poverty-stricken blacks any worse off than poverty-stricken whites? Neither have any money. That's just a stupid thing to say. I don't know about murder rates but a meth smoking hillbilly certainly isn't any better than an inner city, black crack smoker.
He brings up a good point. Why is the crime, burglary, and murder rate so much higher amongst impoverished inner city blacks than compared with impoverished rural and country whites?
Most of the cities some people call them scary doesn't look scary to me at all. They think all of those cities celebrate Halloween everyday. There are no ghosts in any city and no haunted houses too.
Here's the ugly truth. Cities with high crime and especially a high black population tend to scare people. Most people would rather live in a haunted house in a peaceful neighborhood than live in a neighborhood with poor minorities. It may be harsh but I think it's the truth more times than not.
I'm sorry, but that is nonsense. Poverty among whites even in the poorest of areas comes no where near what can be found in black ghettos across America. Violent crime, in poor rural white communities, is also almost non-existent (though other non-violent crime exists). Poor, rural, white America is also vanishing with each passing year because of the low numbers of kids being born, where black ghettos have some of the lowest median ages in the country and have crime prone youths running all about them.
And generations of black kids been born out of wedlock to young single mothers who live on welfare with their mothers and grandmothers and great-grandmothers, without a single responsible male role model (much less a father figure) anywhere in their lives ... and this is perfectly acceptable and fine within the black community.
We have allowed generation after generation of entitled, welfare-dependent, under-educated, poor black people to exist in this country -- and having a black man in the White House has done not made one damn difference.

... or impoverished rural and country blacks? People seem to forget (or are just not aware) that many small towns and rural areas of the south are inhabited by black people that are no better off financially than their urban cousins. But they live entirely different lifestyles.
Southern rural whites and blacks often live side by side, in the same towns, go to the same schools and get along just fine. It's really only in America's cities where you'll find stark segregation among the races.
That website links to the homicide rates among youth and even breaks it down by race. They even do it for each individual state. Look at the difference between white males and black males in Illinois to get an idea of how bad this is. Nationwide, youth black males are more than TEN times more likely to murder someone than young white males. Even young black women have a homicide rate more than twice the rate of young white men.

A meth smoking hillbilly is different than a black inner city crack smoker because because the hillbilly is not likely to murder you to rob you and buy his meth.
It all leads back to WWII. During the war, there were lots of factory jobs in the north (Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, etc) And because of cheap labor in those factories, along with a need for jobs, African American families from the south started moving up north, causing the black migration. At first it was all good because the families in the south took pride in their houses and took care of their neighborhoods. But then the next generation did a terrible job at it and the buildings became abandoned and the neighborhoods got rough, especially by the 1960's. This, on top of segregation, caused the modern day ghetto, which I think is just ignorance because ghettos were poor crime filled nazi invaded dirty cramped Jewish neighborhoods during WWII. Now, these Black neighborhoods are in bad shape, which makes people think that cities with these neighborhoods are bad neighborhoods. It's all due to WWII. It's really unfortunate. But some neighborhoods around the cities are very good, which makes the cities more rich.
I think this does have a lot to do with Black people, or rather non-Black peoples' misconceptions about Black people.
Here in Cincinnati, the poorest and most run-down urban populations are Appalachian. There is far more blight and crime in the Appalachian neighborhoods than the Black neighborhoods. That said, no one ever talks about the Appalachian communities while the Black communities are always discussed with contempt. There is clearly a double standard that falls along racial lines.
I think a lot of perceptions of cities like Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia as dangerous has to do with a concentration of Black people. I grew up in a Black neighborhood on the North side of Milwaukee and I can't begin to fathom why people think 10 Black people enjoying each others company on a sidewalk is somehow a threat, but I know that mentality is out there in the psyche of so many that its impacts are tangible.
