You're clearly completely unaware of each of these places in terms of livability and lifestyle based on those remarks. Too cold, icy or gloomy? Compared to what? Believe it or not everyone isn't completely enthused with 12 cookie-cutter months of sunshine and 75 degrees. Each are college towns and melting pots. It doesn't get much more liberal and progressive than Athens or Chapel Hill in 90% of the US and the rest I would place at average or better on that scale. Supposedly having less emphasis on healthy eating, active/outdoor oriented lifestyles and nature is completely ridiculous as well, based on what infrmation??? Had you even set foot in ANY of these places you would know it couldn't be any more opposite from the previous statement.
