I guess I can see that, one thing I noticed about Illinois when I moved here is that as much as coruption might be there in politics, the state and feds have a huge push in uncovering coruption here. The local news and newspapers all have units that exist just to go after all politicians and try to uncover anything they can and send people away. I mean they pick and pry to uncover any story they can, as silly as some of them are at the end of the day.

Why do you feel that way? You have evidence disproving the study's findings the other states suffer less public corruption over the last couple decades?

It's important to note that there's a distinction between My gov't is dysfunctional' (or the more common 'I just don't like my gov't') and 'My gov't is corrupt.'

CA state gov't is certainly dysfunctional in many ways, but I wouldn't have picked them in the top 10 most corrupt. Of states not on that top 10 list the two that surprise me for not being on it would be NJ and OH.

Yeah I agree. At least in IL we are putting people behind bars in several cases, which is more than can be said for some other states. If people want to believe their state is shiny and lacks corruption simply because they aren't seeing it uncovered, then so be it...I think you'd be hard-pressed to name a state that *doesn't* have corruption at any level. And if one were to name a state, it's probably that the corruption has yet to be unveiled.

If we go on stereotypes only, then the list should be topped by New Jersey, Louisiana and Illinois. Those states are always thought of as the most corrupt. Heck in New Jersey they shut down your towns bridge if you don't support the governor. Illinois governors sell US senate seats.
