I think the negative stereotypes of New Jersey come from New Yorkers and even some NJ residents that want to keep the riff-raff out. Many people's experience with NJ comes from the tunnel heading into Manhattan. It's pretty rough in that area, but if you keep driving away from the city...wow!

My gf always said it was nice with lots of green and farmland, but that NEVER gets shown on TV.

When I think of my home (TX of course), I'd say....bugs. Between gigantic cockroaches, scorpions, rattlesnakes, mosquitoes etc., you'd think you're living in Australia or something.

Probably the only state with desert and swamp-like environments.

What's what the first thing that comes to ming when YOU think of a given state?
Jesus. Have you ever been to the South? There is a very clear anti-southern bias in this. I get it's your opinion, but most of the south is anything but rural. The most rural states in the country are in the great plains and off the West Coast.
