Hey all,
We'll be arriving at Newark airport in august, driving to Dallas. We will be carrying a lot (!) of baggage, since the final destination is a relocation for 3 years. Considering we don't want to make it a long journey, we were thinking of being on the road for about 4-5 days. please bear in mind that we will:
1. Have our 3 year old son with us.
2. Have our mid-size dog.
3. I'm 7 months pregnant.
4. It's August.
Is there any "scenic" route that we can drive through?
Any recommendations for places to stop/attractions and also motels on the road that take dogs?
I would recommend taking I-78 out of Newark west to Harrisburg and taking I-81 south through the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia on down to Knoxville, followed by I-75 south to Chattanooga, I-59 south to Birmingham and then I-20 over to Dallas. The I-81 portion is quite scenic as it passes alongside the Shenandoah/Blue Ridge Mountains, but flat for the most part with some rolling hills. LaQuinta Inns, Red Roof Inns and Drury Inns allow pets to stay for free and other chains like Comfort Inn, Quality Inn and Best Western allow pets at most properties with a small pet fee attached.
