So how did my fellow Americans spend their July 4th holiday this year? I went with my brother's family to a barbecue at their friends' home and then we walked to a local lake to view the local firework display.

Spent the morning volunteering in the food tent (brats and turkey sandwiches) at our town's fast pitch softball tournament (teams representing small towns all over our area). Then I spent the afternoon volunteering at the nearby Historic Site, where I listened to a speaker read the Declaration of Independence, watched part of the 1860s baseball game, and listened to a brass band play next to the pie eating contest. In the evening we watched fireworks over the river from our screened in porch. Georgeous weather, beautiful day here in Minnesota!
