Who are the prominent businessmen and government leaders (including military) who have shaped the history of major U.S. cities? Which names frequently appear on a city's prominent landmarks and institutions? For Pittsburgh, the names of five businessmen instantly come to mind:

- Carnegie
- Frick
- Heinz
- Mellon
- Westinghouse

Other lesser-known but still notable names include:

- Buhl
- Kauffman
- Lawrence

Names I can think of in other cities include Rockefeller and Gund in Cleveland, Sears and Daley in Chicago, and Rice in Houston. So what are some other names of the elite by city? List them.

Daley is certainly a name of importance in Chicago.

But Sears (the person) is not. The retailer bears it's founder's name, but Julius Rosenwald was the driving force who made Sears into the huge national retailer. He was a great philanthropist, with many donations to Jewish and African-American causes.

Others in Chicago that come to mind:

The Pritzker family
The Armour family
Cyrus McCormick
George Pullman
William Wrigley
Marshall Field

For Jacksonville

The well-known names:
Dupont (Yes, the Delaware Duponts. Widow moved to Jacksonville and the Foundation is located here)
Flagler (The railroad magnate pretty much built Florida. It all obviously began in Jax)

Not really known outside Jax:
Wayne and Delores Weaver (Original majority owners of the Jaguars...top 20 most giving philanthropists in the US)
Shad Khan (Current sole owner of the Jaguars)
Peter Rummell (Former Disney executive)
Betsy Lovett (Lovett food stores...major philanthropist in NYC as well)
Davis Family (Winn-Dixie)

I'm sure there are others that I'm not thinking of at the moment, but overall Jax's list is certainly much shorter than others.
