The point is that the State of Virginia itself, not the Census Bureau, officially actually declares it.

First there is nothing wrong with the Hudson River Valley. In fact I would say that area is better then most.

As for NYC, yes it is horribly crowded and expensive. But that is because too many people want to live there.

From DC's info site.

The site does not say "was a southern city." It says: "As a southern city, Washington, DC has always had a large Black population."

And if we're really going parse words here, is saying that a state is located in the South Atlantic Region the same as "proudly states it is a Southern state"? It's just a factual statement.

That's mainly because of NOVA, which is an extension of DC--a historically Southern city. Outside of NOVA, there's really not much characteristically Northern about VA.

Virginia is still the south. They seceded from the usa before, so how are they going to be
seen as northeastern ever again? They're good where they are: part of old dixie.

People from VA are not going to just forget their history just because Yankees move there.

I meant that the quote you found about Washington DC being Southern is from a historical site. I have no arguments about that, in fact I agree. It explains why Washington DC has had a large black population for most of its history.

In contrast, Virginia on her own website, claims to be a Southern State now.

What "horrible living situation" are you talking about in NJ? Please explain.
