yeah sure, that's how it is. i don't know about no one wanting to admit that though. the title of this thread doesn't mention 'diversity', it says 'lots of white people', straight to the point. if you're white and from some squeeky clean place, you probably want to keep it that way, and would feel uncomfortable anywhere else. if you're not, then you'd probably want to be somewhere with a wider range of people, even if that means it's going to be more gritty. that's life.

you can't run forever. by raising your children around all white folks, they're probably going to be the type that will never feel comfortable in a place full of black/brown folks. the problem (shown in this thread) is that leaves very few places to call home.

My bad
Whoops! Mada e mistake on my previous post. I left out Memphis, which is the Blackest large MSA in the South. New Orleans is actually the second blackest.
Here's the corrected rankings:
In the South, the BLACKEST MSAs are:
1. Memphis (45%)
2. New Orleans/Metarie/Kenner (38%)
3. Baton Rouge (35%)
4. Columbia (33%)
5. Virginia Beach/Norfolk/Newport news (31%)
6. (tie) Atlanta/Sandy Springs/Marietta and Charleston/N. Charleston (30%)
To make it up to you for my mistake , I've crunched the national numbers. Among the 88 largest MSA in the country:
- Scranton/WilkesBarre is the whitest at 95% white
- McAllen/Edenburg/Pharr is the least white at 10%
- Memphis is the blackest at 45% black
- McAllen/Edenburg/Pharr is ALSO the least black at 0%
Gee, I wonder who lives in McAllen/Edenburg/Pharr, then? Anyone else want to take a crack at the Hispanic, Asian, AIAN and 2+ race categories?

Yup, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, an American paradise!

Glad you found these numbers interesting. It's more work, but more satisfying, to have a discussion based on real numbers, not just guesses and stereotyping! (If you agree, how about some rep? )
RE: Hispanic, Denver/Aurora MSA is 21% Hispanic, which is comparable to NYC's, Orlando's, San Francisco's and Chicago's proportions.
RE: how Denver can be among blackest and least blackest at the same time, it's because I am comparing within the 4 major census regions. Denver's region (West) has by far the lowest numbers of blacks in its MSAs. The highest MSA in the region is San Francisco/Oakland at 9%; the lowest is Salt Lake City at 1%. Compare that to the hi/low spreads in the other 3 regions: Northeast: 20%/2%; Midwest: 23%/4%; South: 45%/0%.

Sad but true. I know that it's politically incorrect to say that but reality is reality. I gave you a rep point for having the guts to come out and mention a politically incorrect truth, too.

Coming from the south to the north you really notice there is hardly any diversity. Sitting in Paneras the other day with a friend from here, I said "Do you know what the difference between where I can from and here is?" The restaurant would of been 30% black and there was one black person in the place and it was packed. I miss the diversity.

since the numbers can be misleading at times (for example, the city of pittsburgh is about 30% black, but in reality the overall area is rather white) here are a couple of maps to show the percentage of whites by county.
