There is no lower unemployment, either. You might want to look at THIS country's statistics. If things are so good where you are, apparently outside the USA, could you sponsor me for a job around your way? Thanks.
I'm just basing this on what was said in class by leading sociologist Dr. Howard Winant. No, I'm inside the USA in CA. I'm looking objectively at the numbers. That's great that you hired minorities, but the general theme is that more people are apt to hire whites. The unemployment data can be confirmed by the census. Think about it this way, minorities typically have lower education levels (less obtaining a bachelors or higher). Thus, it is harder to get a a job that is stable. They are the hardest hit during an economic downturn. So...if you find that person abroad (it's not me), tell them to sponsor two people.

People often don't realize that because the city is somewhat more segregated than the rest of BosWash. Tourists don't really go to South Boston.

The demographics in the city of Atlanta are changing rapidly...it will be interesting to see how big the change with the 2010 census...from July 2008, a Governing.com article titled "Atlanta and the Urban Future"

Quote:
"There is really only one way to put it: Atlanta is becoming whiter, and at a pace that outstrips the rest of the nation. The white share of the city's population, says Brookings Institution demographer William Frey, grew faster between 2000 and 2006 than that of any other U.S. city. It increased from 31 percent in 2000 to 35 percent in 2006, a numeric gain of 26,000, more than double the increase between 1990 and 2000. The trend seems to be gathering strength with each passing year. Only Washington, D.C., saw a comparable increase in white population share during those years, although several other big cities are starting to see it now."

You are way, way off. 53% of New York City's population is white. You just got those two digits mixed up!

The USA is 65% white, not 76%. The USA census don't include white hispanics. Its probably lower than 65% if you exclude the Arabs too. If they going to include white hispanics, then they might as well include black hispanics, native american hispanics, and multiracial hispanics. This would make the black, native american, and multiracial population larger than what it is now in the US.

If we're all lucky, the numbers will get so muddled and difficult to comprehend that we'll just start becoming Americans rather than hyphenated Americans.

Portland is not that white it has one of the largest Chinese/Vietnamese-American populations. The neighborhoods are pretty diverse too, especially the area I lived in King (Martin Luther King Jr.) it is about 40% Black, 30%, 10% Hispanic, 20% Other. Portland is around 75% White 10% Black 10% Asian 10% Hispanic. The blacks mainly live in N.E. Portland around the King area also the suburb of Gresham the Asians live in S.E. Portland also the suburbs of Beaverton and Clackamas also around the Sandy Blvd. area of N.E. Portland and many Hispanics live in suburb of Hillsboro and the whites are spread out everywhere.

Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, etc. Anywhere in the midwest, with a few exceptions. Obviously places like Kansas City, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Chicago are going to be diverse.
